Keeping the Balance Between Work Travel and Family Time
Business travel can be hard both for the individual that has to go traveling and their family. The person travelling regularly misses out on family events and the comforts of home. They regularly lose out on sleep also particularly if they should handle time zone changes. Their families have to be taught how to cope with them not being around as frequently as they would like.
Parents who have to travel often for business regularly have feelings of guilt and isolation since their travel makes family life harder and makes them feel like they are not good folks according to the Families and Work Institute.
There are a number of tips that may help those who travel regularly put less stress on their family relations and keep their families together.
It is particularly important to keep in communication with your family constantly, even though it is just to talk about everyday events thru mail, e-mail, calls, or instant messages. Ideas for doing this include :
* Sending some flowers and or romantic e-mails or letters to your partner at surprising times.
* Both spouses can hide notes for their partner to find, either in the home or in the baggage dependent on which partner the note is for.
* Calling each night simply to say good night before heading off to bed.
